Who was Dan Beard?
Dan Beard was an author and illustrator of many boys’ books throughout his career.
He wrote and illustrated an article called “How to Camp Without a Tent.” This became the basis of The American Boys’ Handy Book. It sold over 250,000 copies to boys interested in what a Scout learns today.
Dan Beard was 55 and editor of a magazine called Recreation when he founded a column called The Boy Pioneers, Sons of Daniel Boone. The name later became the Boy Scouts. This was the beginning of the Scout movement.
